Why the ALeague is stupid to ignore promotion vs relegation.
As the new ALeague season begins expanding seems a distant hope, a dream and nothing more. Nothing would excite fans more than the prospect of being able to watch more clubs. people are frustrated that it may be several years before they are able to see their local club compete to enter the ALeague. And they will be waiting at least another couple of years because the ALeague board of directors is unlikely to change its decision.
All the big leagues do it, the Bundasliga, FFA and the English premier league. Promotion and relegation is how these big leagues go about adding new teams and new excitement to their respective competitions.
Theses big leagues have enjoyed stunning success. An example of this is the fact that the FFA enjoyed 11,000 fans at it's Olympic village. This is conclusive evidence that a market exists for such a change to the ALeague. What if nothing is done? The clear evidence tells us that if the ALeague does nothing it will go in to steady decline.
Two competitions, running separately could link together to provide a way for teams to be promoted and relegated from the ALeague. Since the formation of the NSL in 1977, the link has never existed properly and entirely.
What would be achieved with promotion and relegation systems? If this were true then it would allow state based teams in Australia and New Zealand to compete for a place in the ALeague.
So the doubait is this, If there is a promotion and relegation system introduced in the ALeague will the numerous beneficial things that would occur outweigh all the useless stuff the the ALeague board would come up with to combat it?
WHAT'S NEW?
